Engine set up tips

Race engine setup

·         Carburettor modification re flooding and jumping modification, includes damming of top air inlet on top of carburettor, and lowering of float height by heating and bending plastic float tab,

·         Place wine bottle type piece of cork in lower crank where gearbox input shaft goes to limit water entering though spline.

·         Welding of crank pins, there are 3 crank big end pins to be welded and 2 crank journals in the centre of the crank. Any welding shop can do this.

·         Swivel bracket needs to be welded for strength in several areas.

·         Engine mounts need to be beefed up with FULCRUM suspension polypropylene mounts which take shock and vibration better than solid engine mounts.

·         Rev limiter can be diabled by cutting the black and yellow wire behind black box CDI.

·         Lighting coils used to generate electricity can be removed from stator plate under flywheel to eliminate electromagnetic drag on engine.

·         The pan under the power head needs to be sealed with sikaflex or similar to eliminate water entering the motor area.

·         Head and block can be machined to specifications check with your racing club or governing body.

FUN ENGINE SET UP, not legal for racing, check your rules.

·         Install fibreglass reeds similar to boyessen or two stroke motorcycle reeds. PHOTO

·         125 jets can be installed which increase high rpm performance and reduces slightly fuel consumption PHOTO

·         The cylinder liner steel can be ported or matched to the engine block increasing smoother flow and velocity of transfer gases.

·

·         Newer motors can improve with the fitment of a 50 D model exhaust pipe for increased top end performance.

·         Up to 1mm can be milled from the cylinder head and up to 0.5mm from the engine block, squish clearance must be checked by an engineer to ensure no detonation will be encountered or exclusive use of high octane rated fuels to eliminate pinging.

·         Don’t recommended porting motor as what you gain you lose elsewhere i.e. raise exhaust port height you lose bottom end and midrange performance, PHOTO should only be performed by a professional two stroke engine porter with years of experience.

·         Air box can be removed for less air restriction into carburettors.

·         Carburettors can be bored slightly to increase cubic feet per minute CFM rating.

·         Cranks can be balanced with Mallory metal and this requires a long and costly process see a professional.

·         M40 C pistons fit and are of a much larger bore size however they may require a specially made head gasket.

·         50 TLDI fuel injected head gaskets are much thinner than stock head gaskets and will fit straight on.
